To learn about time at Leonardo da Vinci Museum when it's closed.　誰もいないレオナルド・ダビンチ博物館で時間について学ぶ

I was visiting Milano to prepare for a show. The exhibition venue is Leonardo da Vinci Museum whose main building is a former monastery from sixteenth century, historical cloisters surrounding gardens. The museum after dark with nobody inside teaches me about “time”. The beauty is the night museum. Among all, about rhythm is my favourite.

“The rhythm is the sequence or frequency of any form of movement and is at the base of the concept of time and its measurement.
Even if we are not aware of it, we are surrounded by many phenomena, natural or artificial, that repeat themselves with regularity.
Some last only a few seconds, others take days, years or even centuries.
Some can be heard, like the heartbeat or the ticking of the clock, others must be observed like the succession of seasons or the flashing of a traffic light.

Rhythm has such an important role in our daily life that can even be used as a means for sending messages and information.
An applause, for example, is the measure for success.
It is such an easy code that it can overcome linguistic and cultural barriers.”

11月初め、展覧会の準備でミラノを訪れていた。会場のレオナルド・ダビンチ博物館は、16世紀に修道院として建てられた建造物で、中庭を囲む回廊式の石造り。

閉館後の館内をうろつく。人の気配が消えた博物館で、時間について学ぶ。妖艶な夜の博物館で、とりわけ美しい、リズムについての数行。

「リズムとは、何かの動きが、続いてあるいは頻繁に起こることであり、時間およびその測定の概念の基本である。
普段気づかなくても、自然人工問わず規則性をもって繰り返す現象は数多くみられる。
数秒で終わるものや、数日、年単位、あるいは世紀を超えて続くものもある。
心臓の鼓動や時計の音のように聴こえてくるものもあれば、季節の移り変わりや信号機の点滅のように感じられるものもある。

リズムは、私たちの生活に重要な役割をもち、リズムによって意図や情報を伝えることもできる。
たとえば拍手は、成功の尺度である。
非常に簡単な合図であるから、言葉や文化の壁を飛び越えることができる。」
