what we discussed tonight...　今夜私達が話し合ったこと...

Tonight was the special night as we held a salon here just for one night.
Discussion by Take HIRAKAWA and Takahiro KIKUCHI.
Wedged in a small room in Iroha Yokocho, resisting the lack of oxygen, young audience sat up and listened to them carefully to make the discussion meaningful.

May energies of dialogues color your life luxuriously.

last preparation　最後の準備

The person who invited us, assistant, to Sendai is nobody else but Takashi SHINKAWA.
Just before the opening of TANABATA.org, we left Tokyo at midnight to Sendai.
What made me nervous this time was the absense of George (assistant's driver). We could safely reach Sendai before noon, however.
Arrival in Sendai meant the beginning of the preparation of our two exhibition spaces.

One in Iroha Yokocho, we started from saying hello to the planner, Takashi MURAKAMI, volunteer staffs, and other artists, which was followed by cleaning and painting the walls.
The other space to exhibit in Sendai Mediatheque, we, at first, talked with the curator, Naoto OGAWA, who helped us really.
The exhibition time: August 6th - 10th.

assistant を仙台へ招いてくれたのは、ほかの誰でもない、新川貴詩さん。
TANABATA.org オープンを目前に控え、真夜中に東京を出発して仙台へ。
無事昼前に仙台に到着し、すぐ展示準備に入る。

assistant の展示会場は２カ所。壱弐参横丁の空店舗は、新川さんとともに TANABATA.org へ招待してくれた主催者の村上さんや、ボランティアの方々や、作家みなさんへのご挨拶と、掃除と、ペンキ塗りから。せんだいメディアテークは、あらゆることを取り計らってくれた学芸員の小川さんとの打ち合わせから。展示期間は、8月6日～10日。

IROHA-Yokocho　壱弐参横丁

IROHA-Yokocho would be the hub of TANABATA.org. It's a small but only market which could survive the war. A hundred shops stand in a raw. Though the famous Sasakamaboko maker originated in this market, now you see many shops vacant. These days, some new unique stores such as vintage clothes shops for the young are bringing new atmosphere in this area. Just one more effort using the power of art. That's TANABATA.org.

TANABATA.orgの拠点となる壱弐参横丁は、戦争で焼け残ったマーケット。
狭いスペースに100の店舗がひしめき合う。
有名な笹かまぼこ屋も壱弐参横丁から始まったというが、今では空き店舗が目立つ。
最近では、若い人向けの古着屋など、新しいお店がまばらに入り活気を取り戻しつつあるが、あと一息。そこで、アートの力で何とかしようとするのがTANABATA.orgなのである。

@sendaimediatheque　せんだいメディアテークにて

There is some ongoing plan in the city of Sendai.
It is an exhibition called TANABATA.org about "sight-seeing and contemporary art" whose organizer is Takashi Murakami.
The exhibition will be shown in SENDAI mediatheque, the shopping mall, and on back streets during the same week with the big Tanabata Festival in Sendai.

On this Saturday, the meeting on "Roji(street) Art" which is one of the linked projects of TANABATA.org was held at mediatheque. Sendai is interesting for being experimental to bring new energy to the community by promoting art and design. The mediatheque is the center of this movement. As there are few other cities in Japan where you can realize the growing culture, many designers and artists have moved to Sendai from Tokyo. The educational effect from those people makes the city more special.

仙台では、ある企画が進行中である。
村上タカシさん発案による「観光とアート」の展覧会で、TANABATA.orgと呼ばれている。
仙台七夕祭の時期に重ねて開催され、せんだいメディアテークや商店街、裏路地など、街全体に現代美術を展開する計画だ。

この日の土曜日は、メディアテークでTANABATA.orgのリンク企画「ロジアート」の会議が開かれていた。仙台は、アートやデザインによってコミュニティを活性化させようとしている、実験的でおもしろい街。その起爆剤であり、中心であるのがメディアテークだ。
文化が育っていくプロセスを実感できる、おそらく数少ない場所だから、東京からもデザイナーやアーチストが多く移住していってしまった。そうした人々が、若い人たちに教育的な効果も生んだりしていて、なんだか気になる街なのだ。
